‘Cause I’m a masochist.

Starting Thursday, I’m going to be working on two novel-length works of fiction simultaneously. One will be the NaNoWriMo novel I previously alluded to: I’m still on track for that because I don’t want it to have a release date too far removed from its prequel.

The second piece was a plot that came to me out of nowhere when I was driving to a meeting to chat with some fellow CRW members. I was on 287 heading towards Lafayette, when WHACK! One of my muses apparently thought that was a good time for a psychic pelting.

I can’t remember the last time I had a story unfold in my head the way this one did. In fact, it might have been 2009 the last time that happened. The book that resulted from that last bombardment was an 85,000-word romantic fantasy thing I finished in less than two months (I still like that story a lot, but haven’t had time to revisit it.).

So, I’m going to roll with it. I have to roll with it. I very rarely know how a story is going to unfold before I sit down and start, but yesterday I came home and wrote a damned complete outline in about half an hour. (I don’t even have one of those for my NaNo piece!)

I’m starting the longer piece today. I don’t know if I’ll be able to carry on the momentum, especially since I’m due edits for a couple of pieces pretty soon. Still, I’ll check in here every couple of days and tell the world how the experiment is going. If it goes well, at the end of December, I’ll have a short contemporary novel and a single title-length WESTERN contemporary.

Yup. Western.
