The second book in my contemporary romance series Hearts and Minds is back out and with some new content. The plot is pretty much the same, but with additional flesh. You not only learn more about Curt and Erica’s pasts and what kept them from happily-every-after, but get a deeper, more meaningful romance!
To be honest, one of the reasons it took me a long time to get this one back out because with the #MeToo movement picking up steam now, the timing for a re-release seemed awful. What Erica endures from her boss, and ex-lover, Tate was hard for me to delve back into. But, in the end, I think I resolved her conflict in a way that was relatable, but satisfying. I wanted readers to be able to root for her and think, “I’d probably do the same thing.”
Hopefully, you will.
Serial dater Curt Ryan isn’t looking for love…or even a distraction. With a Ph.D. in mathematics to finish and his family under intense scrutiny by the Irish press, he already has too much on his plate. But when his godchildren barrel into a pretty American who just happens to live a few hours from where he studies in North Carolina, a new distraction is exactly what he gets.
Photojournalist Erica Desoto hadn’t set out for Ireland looking for a hookup, either, but being abroad incites a spark of adventure in her. Curt is way too smart and a little cynical, but he makes her laugh and think rebellious thoughts. For the first time in over a decade, she starts to believe that she deserves more from her relationships. Further, she wonders if the inscrutable Irishman could be the missing piece to her bold new life.
Frustratingly, Curt is repelling anything resembling commitment. His family has too many embarrassing secrets, and he’s terrified that if he fully falls for Erica, she’ll be the one who quits first.
He may be a genius with numbers, but when it comes to matters of the heart, he’s way behind the learning curve.
