I’ve hosted a M/M writer or two on the blog before, but I’ve never spotlighted a F/F (that’s female/female) romance. Guess what? Got one today. Aren’t I nice to you by treating you to such a diverse group of authors? I think you’ll find interesting how Eden Glenn’s latest Rebel Ink Press release (published 2/3/13) Dar’kind Promises was spawned. I sure did! (And trust me – that’s never happened to me, and if I did I’d be walking around with my head inflated to the size of Charlie Brown’s.)
Here we go with the same questions as always.

WHO are your main characters?
Dar’kind Promises is a F/F Erotic Romance. The first heroine is Maura, a Dar’kind Fairy from a dimension that co-exists secretly on the other side of a veil from our human one. The second heroine is Zeila, a tracker and one of a race of feline shape shifters. She is from the same world as Maura. She is here to meet Maura and help her on her quest. Zeila is a redhead. She has the power to shape shift to a predatory feline and to a somewhat extraordinary Earth type house cat.
WHAT tropes do you utilize in the story?
Maura is on a quest to find one of her race. The last lead brought her to the human dimension. Zelia was chosen by her leaders to help the fae in her mission. Rather like a cooperative governments mission that have brought the two women together. I would label it from Zelia’s perspective “Love at First Sight – Oh the Horror, this can’t be happening” and from Maura’s point of View “I am so NOT a damsel pfft– much less in distress, thank-you-very-much!”
WHEN is the story set and how long does it take to resolve?
It is set in contemporary Earth dimension. The story resolves in a matter of days.
WHERE is the story set and why’d you choose that setting?
Everything happens in a small town in north Florida where leads have indicated Ardith went missing. This short novella ties into other stories I have written which occur in this area. I am from Florida and found the north east part of the state a rich location for a paranormal world to intersect with ours.
WHY did you write this story?
LOL, Well…My editor asked me to. When she sent me the revision letter for my M/M erotic romance, The Galloping Ghoul of Hockomock Swamp. She asked if I had ever considered doing a F/F erotic romance. She said a lot of nice flattering stuff that made me say yes before I thought about what I was agreeing too. HAHA, and I found myself looking for the story I needed to write, LOL.
Dar’kind Promises took some time to write. I struggled with it quite a bit actually. I wanted love to be love regardless of the gender of the lovers. I wanted a love story adventure that anyone could enjoy whether lesbian or straight. I wanted the sex between the two women to be sensual and strike a chord with everyone.
The plot came as an off-shoot, side trip so to speak, from a novel I am working on for publication perhaps in 2014. Questions on why and how some things happened to cause the rescue of one of the supporting characters in that WIP. Dar’kind Promises addresses some of those questions.
HOW is this story different than the last one you wrote?
The previous story I’d written was a contemporary erotic romance, a ménage m/f/m with m/m/f moments. Raynia’s Magic has only a whisper of paranormal in the question of perhaps a necklace holds some magic. This story is the first in the Amethyst Desire Collection and we’ll see vol 2 published by Rebel Ink Press in Mar/Apr 2013 Beverly’s Secret. It will be followed by other erotic romance stories with the amethyst necklace as the link that ties them all together. Just by chance, Beverly’s Secret is a contemporary F/F erotic romance as well.
About Dar’kind Promises
Darkind Fairy Maura comes to the human dimension on a search and rescue mission for one of her race. The success of the mission rests on her wits and the skilled aid of her feline tracker, Zelia. Unfortunately, Zelia is experiencing unpredictable shifts between feline and human forms.
Distracted by the sultry woman in her bed, Maura struggles to stay focused on their quest. If they’re unable to figure out how to gain control of Zelia’s shifting, all hope for success of their mission as well as any possibility of their future together will be lost.
Worse yet, an ancient evil targets Zelia and Maura in a bid for power and control of their magic.
Zelia is willing to risk becoming trapped in feline form and losing the love she’s found if it means she can save Maura from the evil hunting them. Meanwhile, Maura searches for the strength to abandon the quest for her lost ‘sister’ if doing so will save Zelia’s life and stabilize her shifting abilities.
From Dar’kind Promises
[The set-up: how Maura meets Zelia even if she doesn’t know it yet.]
Maura covered her head with the pillow, ready to scream. She had precious few hours to sleep and that damn cat yowled like a banshee outside her hotel room. Rising for the sixth time from her thwarted attempt at sleep, she stomped to the bathroom sink where she drew a glass of water and headed toward the noise. Prepared, like she’d been the previous five times, to douse the cat with the half glass of water. The routine failed to get rid of the mongrel beast.
She opened the door. The infernal cat didn’t even attempt to run. It sat a scrawny, wet, pathetic mess on the welcome mat.
“What? You think that welcome applies to you? Because it doesn’t. Why don’t you just scram? I’m sure there’s a cat woman somewhere with twelve cats who can make room for one more.”
The miserable orange menace who persistently kept her awake just sat there, butt parked on the ‘L’ making the mat read WE COME. Maura looked up at the sky. The air felt heavy, the customary dawn storm brewed. Thunder had rumbled half the night. She looked down at the beast again. Why didn’t it just dart through the open door? The puny thing sneezed hard, a shudder followed causing it to stumble.
Maura sighed. “Oh, hell. I give up. I totally give up. Get in here. We’ll probably both be thrown out in the morning.”
The cat marched into the room as if to say, about time you saw reason, silly human. No surrender in her prancing entrance to the room.
“If you end up having to pee you’d better hold it. I don’t favor my room smelling like cat piss.” Maura grabbed a towel off the counter and scooped up the orange fur ball. “I can’t believe I’m doing this.” She sat on the bed with the cat wrapped in the towel and began rubbing it roughly to soak off the water. It couldn’t be that old. The thing didn’t weigh more than a pound or two soaking wet. Yeah, she felt bad about that. The thing wasn’t much bigger than her cupped hands. Any sensible cat would have scampered for better territory after the first dousing.
“What the hell am I going to do with a cat?”

Thanks for visiting, Eden!
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
this sounds like fun. i’ve always wanted to do a shape-shifter where the animal is cute and silly–a weresquirrel being my first choice. but i’m way too conservative to write f/f erotica.
congrats!
I’ve considered some silly shifter stuff, too! Actually have a holiday thing in the works. I can’t do erotic without it being a little bit off-kilter.
Someone wrote some…crap, what was it? I think it was set in part in a trailer park and the shifters were some kind of rodent. I need to find it. It wasn’t exactly obscure…
