My paranormal romance heroines tend to be a bit…surly. They’re the kind of women whom need men to love them in spite of their sharp edges (and not try to file them off). For these women, being soft is difficult, but not impossible. The right kind of guy will bring out that tenderness, but she’s going to make him work for it.
That’s the basis of my Shrew series. We’ve all heard of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew, but I wanted to write stories where the heroine doesn’t get tamed–where she acknowledges her personality, and is resigned to the fact finding her match won’t be easy.
But when she finds him, she knows it and fast. He may not even be the typical alpha-hole you’d expect to bend her into submission. He may simply be some [brave] intelligent man who can read her moods and knows not to press her buttons.
The first Shrew book was a novella – The Problem with Paddy. I didn’t know if I’d be able to convince myself that a woman like Dana who’d been burned so bad in the past would fall for a guy in such a short period of time.
Then I realized that maybe women like Dana and her fellow Shrews are the ones who are most desperate to love someone and be loved back. You’ll see that again and again through the series, in all
five six planned titles. These women don’t just fall in love. They fall hard. It’s a bit like magic.) No wonder I write paranormal, huh?)
I’m giving away a paperback that contains the first two Shrew & Company installments (US only – international entrants get e-book version). That’s Dana’s story AND the novel Framing Felipe.
