ICYMI: January 2022

Here’s a quick rundown of announcements and offerings you may have missed this month!

Wish out of Water

The first book in the Hooked series, Wish out of Water is available to pre-order now at some retailers. I did submit the package to Apple Books, it still hadn’t been reviewed by the writing of this post. Hopefully, by the time the book launches on 2/15, it will be available at most places people buy e-books.

And speaking of pre-orders: because this is 100% in my control, I can promise that the price of this book will not drop for at least six months after launch. I know it’s annoying to take a risk and pay full-price for a new book only for the publisher to price-pulse it a few weeks later. If you do see any random discounts, assume they were initiated on the retailer’s end and not by me.

I included this information in the front matter of the e-book, but since reading devices sometimes default to the first page of story text, I wanted to say it here, too: Hooked is a four-book series about the Williams siblings. You will ask me about certain characters. I will tell you what will become my stock answer: “I’m turning over a new leaf and trying to make my series more compact. I will spin that character into a new series if enough readers really want me to.”

Even Keel

I am launching a contemporary romance serial in Kindle Vella right now! It’s called Even Keel. It’s set in a place very loosely based on my hometown. The story was written way back when sex scenes still scared me, so it’s definitely a “softer” read than you may be used to getting from me and the pacing’s a little less aggressive, but it’s got the same Holley Trent personality.

It’s a story about a newly single mom who tumbles back into her tiny town after years away and gets swept off her feet by a completely unproblematic stranger. (Again, I wrote this back when there was still a chance any given character in one of my books wouldn’t be a hot mess.)

I’m currently uploading two episodes per week and revising as I go. I’m still a relative amateur with serialization and breaking stories into chunks, so please bear with me. I don’t know when, or if, I’ll make the full novel available on its own. There are four stories in the series, but because they’re not Typical Holley Trent, I have to make sure folks know what they’re getting.

Extent

Soon. Like, March.

I’m not so much stealth-launching the next Jekh book, but just trying to make sure I don’t release on a day it gets lost in the churn. It’s going to launch exclusively for Kindle. I may make it widely available in a few months, but I’ll have to consult my oracle to see when that’ll make sense.

You can check my “What’s in Kindle Unlimited?” posts on the first day of each month to see which series have cycled in and out of the program.

All Jekh Saga stories are currently enrolled in the Kindle Unlimited program, so if you’ve been waiting to catch up until you knew the next story was near—now’s the time!

fairy romance

This is not a drill.

I finished a Hearth Motel book. In fact, I’m two drafts into it. That makes it basically a sure bet for a second quarter release.

It’s a full-length series installment that takes place after the events of the Afótama Legacy book Legacy. It’s important for me to mention that because it’s Matt’s book.

More on that soon.

Down and Dirty Things

I figured out what happened after Lowdown Dirty. The next in the series is my current drafting project. It has a working title, but it may be too idiomatic, so let me chew on it a little while longer.

It’s Heidi and Carine’s story.

I’ve already whispered, “No, honey, what are you doing?” through my screen to them several times, and I don’t know if that’s a good sign or a bad one.

Look for that story this summer.
